Here are some of my favourite and least favourite crossbows I have rated them on power, arrow speed, accuracy, durability, wheight, and price.
Barnett Wildcat C5
This is a great all around bow with its comfortable stock and superior speed its amazing that this bow weighs only 6 lbs. It has a draw wieght of only 150 lbs yet will fire an arrow at over 320 feet per seconed. Another thing that makes this bow great is that it has a very affordable price at only about $ 330.00 CAN. For an overall rating I would give it a 4.5/5
Parker Cyclone Outfitter Compound Crossbow
This is a good crossbow for target practices or marksman competitions but I find it to big and bulky when you are up in a tree stand and it makes it to hard to move around with it. Although it will fire an arrow over 350 feet per second witch is pretty amazing for having a draw weight of only 175 lbs. This bow is a little pricey though ringing in a about $700.00 CAN. Overall I would rate this b0w 2.7/5
Horton Recon 175
This is a whole different style of crossbow it is the most advanced crossbow on the market dilivering all the power of a traditional crossbow at barley half the size. Compact and well balanced this bow shoots with virtually no sound. It has a draw weight of 175 lbs and will fire an arrow up 325 fps. The only down side to this bow is that it is pretty heavy weighing in at aproximatley 10 pounds. Also it is pretty expensive costing a heafty $1500.00 CAN. Overall I would rate this bow about 4.7/5
Parker Buck-Buster 175
I would have to say that is is my favourite bow to use it is very lightweight weighing in at only 6 lbs it is very durable and easy to move around while sitting in your tree stand. It only has a 175 lbs draw weight and still will fire an rrow over 340 fps witch is all the power you need to take down any kind of big game animal. This is a great bow for any beginner hunters or for the more experianced hunters whatever your hunt is it get the job done and only costs $550.00 CAN. I would rate this bow a prefect 5/5
This hunt was my favourite hunt that I have done so far mostly because it ended in success . My uncle had been bating up a spot near his tree stand for me so there was deer around i just had to be patient and wait. I got up into the tree stand at about nine in the morning and it wasn't even 15 minutes until I seen a big 10 point buck coming through the bush right at me. He was being very cautious and coming very slow. My heart was beating rapidly as I tried to lift up my bow slowly without making any noise. He finally came in and turned perfectly broad side of me I had a clear shot, I aimed and pulled the trigger and I got a perfect shot right behind his shoulder. He jumped and ran about 50 yards then dropped. So I finnaly got my first deer and it was a big one.
I went down to bancroft for my second deer hunt, this time for a whole week. I was really excited and was hoping to get my first shot at a deer. I hunted with the same group of guys as last year only this year my dad could not come because he couldn't get the time off work. Anyways it was very hot this year and the deer were not moving much. We ran the dogs through a bunch of times but the deer would not move I think they must have been down in the swamps or something. Anyways we did end up getting a couple deer that week but unfourtunatley I didn't end up getting any I didn't even see one the whole week I was there.
Below are some pictures of the views from some of my watches and tree stands from that week.
These next three pictures show the view I had from the tree stand that I sat in for the first 2 days. As you can see I had a nice clear view all the way around me so that their would be nice wide open shooting.
My first hunting experience was two years ago. My Dad took me on a hunting trip in Bancroft Ontario. We hunted with some other people that we new such as my uncle and my grandpa and a few others who new the area well all together there was about thirteen of us. I was new to the whole hunting thing and didnt really know what to expect. We spent the night at my uncles house and woke up at about 4:30 in the morning so that we could get to our watches just in time for sunrise. Since it was my first year I stayed on watch with my dad. My uncle and one of the other guys from the group ran the dogs through the bush and it wasnt long before we heard some crashing and banging coming through the bush at us and sure enough it was a deer. A big doe and a fawn poked their heads out around the tree.
We sat quietly waiting for them to move in closer. Finally she turned perfectly broad side of us and my Dad took a shot. Unfourtanatley he missed and they ran off. Even though he missed it was still nice to see one and get some excitment, It really gets your heart pumping. We didnt end up getting anything that weekend but I really enjoyed it and knew that I would really like to go again.
